Barbara's entry- Pet Poetry Contest

Barbara wrote this about their school pet, a praying mantis named Sandy (may she rest in peace). She is submitting it for a poetry contest, where the prize is a $250 certificate for pet supplies, (I guess that will probably go to school pets since we don't own any pets! :)) and publication in a magazine.

The Mantis (Sandy)
By Barbara Allbright
Assassin of the Night
Brings some to Fright
Clever Claws
Snapping Jaw
The Mantis.

Alien Eyes
Feel Satisfied
As they spy a Creature.
Slowly Stalking
Walking
Watching
Stealth is her special feature.

Assassin of the Night
Brings some to Fright
Quiet Feet
Ready Teeth
The Mantis.

She grabs.

The Creature is ripped
By an icy grip
From its high top perch.
Rapidly Struggling
Wiggling
Squirming
The Creature gives a lurch.

But the Mantis holds it firm!
And sinks her teeth into it.

Assassin of the Night
Brings some to Fright
The Killer
The Stalker
The Mantis, Sandy.
